About Us

Together in faith since 1968

Deo Lutheran Church has been worshipping together and  serving our commmunity in wide variety of ways for well over 50 years.

At Deo, worship is both traditional and creative.  If the preaching sounds progressive in our church, that is most likely because of our commitment to the Gospel. Our community is small and mostly consists of older people who are actively serving in a wide variety of ways all around the Shuswap.  They are gentle with visitors to our church and they play well with others.

Deo is a congregation of the Evangelical* Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC), which traces its roots back to the beginning of the Protestant Reformation in Germany.  The ELCIC also has a very deep relationship with the Anglican Church of Canada.

*The word Evangelical comes from the greek word εὐαγγέλιον (evangelion), which means Good News, or Gospel.  The word "Lutheran" was originally a slur against churches in the early reformation, and Martin Luther proposed that they call themselves Evangelicals instead.   Over the last 40+ years the word "Evangelical" has become tarnished by groups who have co-opted this word and use it in ways that most members of our denomination would not support.
